I used this idea before I found it on blogs when I did literacy interventions. It really helped some students — especially by putting blends, digraphs, and vowel pairs together.

Looking for a great primary source from the Civil War? Looking to show how women were involved with the Civil War and how the served their country? Look no further than this great source of letters, diary excerpts, and photos from a woman who spent over a year serving as a nurse. The website is very interactive and even includes maps to help students understand the locations where fighting and saving lives took place throughout her side of the story.
